ED Helper’s Shared Committments

Every individual deserves compassionate, high-quality care that addresses the whole person and is provided by qualified and caring professionals. Brokenness is part of the human condition, and we all walk together on the journey toward the freedom God intends for us.

Believing that God created humanity as male and female, the provider’s approach to care is to walk with individuals in a way that reflects and upholds their original, created identity.

While eating disorders and body image struggles often include a spiritual conflict between flesh and spirit, they also involve complex factors. Effective treatment therefore requires a balanced, evidence-based approach that considers biological, psychological, emotional, relational, and spiritual health.

The message of the Gospel is rooted in love and grace, not rigid rules or legalism that can produce shame or secrecy. When setbacks occur, grace provides the path forward. Jesus demonstrated a life of humility and service, and as believers we are called to follow His example in serving others.

Eating disorders are highly complex conditions that demand extensive knowledge and experience to fully understand and effectively treat. We certify that we follow the AACC’s ethical standards (1-200) for competence-based specialization, education and training to work in the specific area of eating disorders for the field I am trained in (ie., nutrition, counseling, medical care, etc). As part of this directory, I certify that I have a minimum of 2000 hours of direct eating disorder care experience.

God grants every individual free will, allowing people to make choices that can lead toward life or away from it. With proper care, support, and the work of the Holy Spirit, individuals can pursue and experience full recovery.

We commit to ongoing collaboration with other providers in the eating disorder space in order to optimize our eating disorder care. This includes participation in a minimum of once monthly meetings with other eating disorder care providers to discuss cases.

Explicit proselytizing (inviting a person to say the salvation prayer) for those not following Jesus is prohibited. However, the client understands that the practitioner is a follower of Jesus, and provides services consistent with Biblical values and their Christian faith. Discussions of faith and scripture will be an option as directed by the client. Ethical treatment is a commitment that is fervently protected and followed. I, hereby, agree to follow the all ethical standards as CREDIT follows, consistent with the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), where applicable.

We continue to pursue knowledge current, evidence-based knowledge in the eating disorder space by seeking out ongoing training each year. I meet at least 20 continuing education credits annually in the field of eating disorders.
